I. TLE7272 Product Overview: A Reliable Choice for Automotive-Grade Power Management
As automotive electronic systems become increasingly complex, a stable and reliable power management IC often determines the operational quality of the entire control module. The Infineon TLE727 series was developed precisely to meet this need—the TLE7272-2D, in particular, is an AEC-Q100-certified 5V fixed-output low-dropout linear regulator (LDO) designed specifically for the harsh conditions encountered in automotive applications. As a globally renowned distributor of electronic components, Mingjiada Electronics maintains a long-term, stable supply of the full range of Infineon automotive-grade chips. With ample stock of the TLE727, we are able to respond swiftly to the procurement and order fulfilment needs of our automotive electronics customers.
The TLE7272 forms part of Infineon’s OPTIREG™ line of linear regulators; it is a monolithic low-dropout regulator with a maximum load current of 300 mA. Its core function is to precisely regulate an input voltage of up to 42 V to a stable output of 5.0 V ± 2 per cent. Featuring a built-in reset circuit and integrated output voltage monitoring, it is ideally suited as a power supply for automotive microcontrollers. Housed in a PG-TO252-5 (DPak) package, the device supports surface-mount technology and operates within a junction temperature range of –40°C to +150°C, enabling it to withstand the demanding conditions of high-temperature environments such as the engine compartment. Its AEC-Q100 automotive-grade certification signifies that it has undergone rigorous reliability testing and can be used directly in automotive electronics designs without the need for additional certification processes.
II. Analysis of the TLE727’s Core Technical Features
Ultra-low quiescent current, suitable for constant-power scenarios. The TLE7272-2D has a typical quiescent current of just 20 µA, making it particularly well-suited for ‘always-on’ applications that remain connected to the vehicle battery for extended periods, such as door modules and remote key fob receivers, whilst maintaining system standby without increasing the load of quiescent current. In the off state, typical current consumption is as low as 5 µA, further reducing the system’s overall power consumption.
Extremely low dropout voltage ensures worry-free cold starts. Under a 200 mA load, the TLE7272’s typical dropout voltage is just 0.25 V, with a maximum of 0.5 V. This means that even if the vehicle battery voltage drops significantly during a cold start, the TLE727 can still maintain a stable 5 V output, ensuring the normal operation of downstream MCUs and sensors. The input voltage range is 5.5 V to 42 V, with an absolute maximum input voltage of up to 45 V, providing ample voltage headroom for the in-vehicle power supply network.
High-precision output with excellent ripple suppression. The TLE7272 maintains output voltage accuracy within ±2 per cent, whilst its power supply ripple rejection ratio (PSRR) reaches 60 dB at 100 Hz, effectively filtering out noise interference from the vehicle’s power supply network and providing a clean power supply for analogue circuits and communication interfaces that are sensitive to power quality. The line regulation is as low as 0.02 per cent, whilst the load regulation is as low as 0.04 per cent, ensuring stable output characteristics across a wide load range.
Multiple protection mechanisms ensure system safety. The TLE7272 integrates output current limiting, over-temperature shutdown and input under-voltage protection functions, effectively preventing damage to the chip and system caused by overloads, short circuits and overheating. Stable operation is achieved even when using a ceramic output capacitor as small as 470 nF, helping to reduce the number of external components and PCB footprint.
III. Typical Application Scenarios for the TLE7272
The TLE7272-2D is clearly positioned for automotive general-purpose electronic systems, with typical applications spanning multiple in-vehicle subsystems:
Body Control Module (BCM). It provides a stable 5V logic power supply for loads such as interior lighting, electric door locks and window controls; its low quiescent current characteristics are well-suited to the BCM’s requirements for long-term operation.
ADAS and Chassis Safety Systems. In Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Electronic Power Steering (EPS) systems, the TLE7272 can serve as an auxiliary power supply for sensor fusion modules or microcontrollers, providing a low-noise 5V supply rail.
Infotainment and Telematics. In-vehicle infotainment systems are highly sensitive to power supply ripple; the TLE727’s high PSRR effectively suppresses interference from power supply noise on audio and communication circuits.
Low-power standby systems. For subsystems requiring long-term connection to the battery, the 20 µA quiescent current makes it an ideal choice, helping to control the vehicle’s overall dark current. The TLE727 is equally suitable for all industrial control and portable device applications requiring a stable 5V voltage.
